What We Do

Ambassadors

Our Ambassadors are Area Representatives who maintain a system of communication with members in respective zones and areas in Singapore. They inform and update members of upcoming events and news. They promote engagement of members in activities organized for them and obtain input from them. They assist in membership recruitment assisting the Membership Drive Sub-Committee.

Research

Headed by Dr. S. Mathiyalagan and assisted by Mdm Sarojah Karuppiah and Dr. Silambayee Muthusamy with sub-groups taking charge of different aspects, the team aims to map out the history of Singai Namakkal Association in Singapore and to create an awareness and appreciation of our rich heritage and historical roots of our Kongu Vellalar Kavundar (KVK) community. This would better inform us of the ‘why’, ‘what’ and ‘how’ of our traditions and cultural practices. This in-depth analysis of information would create space for generating new questions and understandings in the current reality and take the association into the future aligned to our motto: Our Heritage, Our Future.

Youth

Headed by Mr. Ramesh Muthusamy, the team comprising Mr. K. Chanthirasekar, Mr. Ravin Periasamy, Mr. Suriya Prakash and Ms Anusiya, aims to work towards building a strong youth base for actualizing Sangam goals, vision, mission and motto by providing opportunities for youth to be engaged in meaningful activities. Further, The Youth Wing seeks to build a support system for youth in the community that will foster mentorship and networking.
The Youth Wing has started the Webinar Series bringing in members and experts in various fields to give talks and interact with members of the association and the community. It is currently working on digitilising the artifacts/memorabilia/publications that the association has.

The Youth Wing is the key driver for setting up this website for the association.

Women’s

Headed by Mrs. Jayaletchmi Singam (Chairman) and assisted by Mdm Mathavi Suppiah (Vice Chairman)  and Mrs. Sarojah Periasamy and Mdm Kunawathyammal as advisors, the team aims to develop a network among the women for educational, cultural and social engagements for their benefit and members at large. The team also assists in the research of cultural and heritage aspects of the Kongu Vellalar Kavundars (KVK). It is currently working on a series of cooking demonstration segments of KVK Cuisine. The first two to make a debut: the making of ‘Sandhavai’ by Mrs. Rajini Asokan hosted by Mrs. Pakkiam Sandran and the all-favourite ‘Opputtu’ by Mdm Kaliammal hosted by Mrs. Jayaletchmi Singam and Mrs. Sarojah Periasamy.

Fitness & Well Being

Work in progress as the association sees the need for programmes for fitness and well-being. There are plans to do webinars on yoga, exercising and other health-related topics.
The ‘Forever Young Brotherhood’ Bukit Merah Hiking Team led by Mr. C. Panneer Selvan and Mr. K. Tamilselvam are on regular routine hiking activities with their group of hikers. Mr. K. Tamilselvam has penned his thoughts in an article about their group bonding and hikes.
